A Note: A litany is usually recited aloud
by at least two people, or more often
by a leader and a congregation. Nevertheless, it can also be said as a private prayer.

The titles granted to Mary are numerous
and wide-ranging in their hope to capture
the enormity of her place in the heavenly plan
of redemption.

An acquaintance of mine, once made the droll observation: "By all these grandiloquent titles,
and the acrimonious theological disputes over her role, Mary - this pure simple, humble woman -
must be the most embarrassed person in heaven."

I am sure she is not embarrassed, but she might appreciate being thought of not only as an enthroned queen looking down on us from a majestic height,
but also as a warm, open, generous, unaffected, uncomplicated and easily approachable human mother, inviting us to talk with her easily and honestly, "face-to-face." DBM
