Dear God, we give back to You the servant
whom You gave to us.

Just as You did not lose him in giving,
so we have not lost him forever by his return to You.

We know that love is immortal - life is eternal -
and death is only a horizon - and a horizon
is nothing but the limit of our earthly sight.

Lift us up, O God, that we may see further.
Cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly.
Open our hearts with a glimmer of eternity,
so that we may love and support one another
more fully here below.

Draw us more closely to You, that we may find ourselves nearer to our beloved who are with You.
Where they are, and where You are,
may we one day be.
