THE
WISDOM OF SAINT TERESA OF AVILA
DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH - 1515-1582
+
It is love alone
that gives worth to all things.
+
Have courage for whatever
comes to you
in life - everything depends on courage.
+
Accustom yourself continually
to make
many acts of love, for they set fires
that melt the soul.
+
Our body has this defect:
the more it is provided care and comforts,
the more needs and desires it finds.
+
Mental prayer is nothing
more than
an intimate sharing between friends.
It means taking time out frequently
to be alone with Him Who we know loves us.
+
Suffering can be a
great favor,
so take courage, pain is never permanent.
Remember that everything temporal
soon comes to an end, but the pain we suffer
with patience for God is an eternal gain.

+
Truth suffers, but
never dies.
+
Our greatest gain is to lose the worldly wealth that
is of such brief duration
and - by comparison with eternal things -
of such little worth.
+
We must learn to know ourselves, and learn
to surrender our will to fulfill God's
will in us.
+
Remember that you have
only one soul -
that you have only one death to die -
that you have only one life,
which is short and has to be lived
by you alone - and there is only one Glory,
which is eternal. Remember this.
+
Christ has no body
now, but yours.
No hands, no feet on earth, but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ looks compassion into the world.
Yours are the feet with which Christ walks
to do good.
Yours are the hands with which Christ blesses the
world.
Let nothing trouble you.
Let nothing affright you.
All things are transient.
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
He who possesses God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
