STONING WOMEN

Jesus, You Who said,
"Let him who is without sin
cast the first stone..."
Please hold back the fury of the men
who would, today, wreak the ancient barbarism
of stoning defenseless women.

Stay their hands, open their minds
and cleanse their hearts of morbid hatreds
and brutal retaliations.

Please put endangered women
into the loving care of Mary Magdalen.
Protect them from their accusers, from sexist misogyny, misbegotten laws, and dominating
or abusive husbands.

Then bring them into safe holiness,
and give them stable family relationships
and virtuous peace.

Amen
